The Women and Geography Study Group regularly offer a number of bursaries to postgraduate students and other new researchers wanting to attend the Royal Geographical Society/ Institute of British Geography Annual Conference. Other events, such as reading groups and one-day conferences, also attract a limited number of bursaries. The value of each bursary is typically in the range of £75 - £150.
If you wish to know whether a particular conference, session or event attracts WGSG bursaries, contact Claire Dwyer, at the address below.
Who is eligible?
Women and Geography Study Group bursaries are aimed at postgraduates and new researchers working on gender-related issues who do not have access to alternative sources of funding. To be eligible to apply for a bursary, you must be a member of the WGSG and must not hold a full-time academic post (except in exceptional circumstances of financial hardship where employment is temporary/ low paid). Your contribution to the conference should be on a gender-related issue, though it need not be in a session convened by the WGSG.
If you would like to be considered for a bursary, please apply in writing to Claire Dwyer, Department of Geography, University College, 26 Bedford Way, London WC1H 0AP. Alternatively, make contact by telephone: 0207 504 5526. Or email: cdwyer@geography.ucl.ac.uk. You should indicate details of your contribution to the conference (e.g. session, title, abstract) and a brief explanation of your funding status.
